West Vincent House
Chester County, PA
Located on a large, sloping conservation property overlooking a wooded creek valley, this house takes full advantage of its secluded setting to provide sanctuary amidst the natural elements.
The project’s focal point is not the house itself, but the outdoor back terrace which overlooks views to the valley below and features entertaining spaces, a small exercise field and a swim spa. All primary program spaces orient to face the valley view and open onto the back terrace with large operable sliding glass doors.
Inside, the house has an open plan with few interior rooms helping to reinforce family gathering possibilities. The second floor features a private family room and three bedrooms with ensuite baths. There is an accessory dwelling unit planned for the walk-out basement.
A simple exterior palette of rustic stone and natural wood helps settle the house in its serene bucolic surroundings. Stone and wood finishes carry into the interior and large glass openings connect the interior to the outside. A flat mono-slope roof provides sun shading, limiting the need for additional shading treatments that would obstruct views out.
